Join Dr. Kate Starbird, Seattle Stand Up for Science , and Obec Brewing for an evening where science, technology, and advocacy intersect. Dr. Starbird will take us on a journey through the evolution of human–computer interaction — from the early days of post–World War II science policy to today’s world of personal devices, AI, and always-on connectivity. Think: from the early seeds of the internet, to the invention of the computer mouse, to the promise (and potential peril) of human-AI interaction. Throughout, she will demonstrate the connection between U.S. government funding of science and the technologies and innovations that have fed our economy and (re)shaped our lives.
Ultimately, Dr. Starbird will highlight why public investment in research and diverse voices in computing and informatics are more essential than ever, especially at a time when those investments are under threat. And you won’t just leave inspired — Seattle’s Stand Up for Science team will be on hand with easy, actionable ways to contact your representatives and stand up for science.
Kate Starbird is a Professor at the Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering (HCDE) at the University of Washington (UW) and co-founder of the UW Center for an Informed Public (CIP).

Hang & Shop:

The official swapping will start at 2pm in order to allow time to hang all clothing items but arrive early to get your tickets to swap and shop our vendors! Bags will be provided or bring your own reusable bag. Beer and N/A drinks will be available for purchase.

It will be an evening of books, imagination, and lively conversation as these writers share their work, talk about Czech science fiction, and answer your questions. Raise a pint, meet the authors, and celebrate a slice of Czech culture right here in Seattle!

Beer Release Day
Join us at the Lucky Envelope taproom on Saturday, May 31st for a beer release day. We’ll be tapping the first brew of our Brewer’s Reunion Tour - Black Heart Dark Lager - a collaboration with former LE brewer, Kyle Jungck (Now at Georgetown Brewing).
We will also be releasing our seasonal Watermelon Splash Tea Sour and the ‘Fish are Friends’ Hazy IPA made with newly named Anchovy hops.
